Ophiopogon chingii Ophiopogon chingii

One of the cutest Mondo Grasses around!  This little Chinese species has very fine leaves making a tight little mound which is decorated with white flowers in spring.  The flowers are not what grabs us though as they give way to rounded oval shiny blue fruits that beg to be admired.  Easy in part shade.

Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Edge of Night' Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Edge of Night'

A subtle sport of the Black Mondo Grass 'Nigrescens' with the thinnest edge of white along one side of the leaf. This was introduced by Collector's Nursery and named by the late clever wordsmith Bill Jansen who was one of the owners.  Bill had a gift for naming plants as many of you conifer collectors well know.

Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens Nana' Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens Nana'

A new dwarf form of this popular Black Mondo Grass.  We have not yet grown these to maturity but have had them them for some time now and can say they are very slow so we do believe they are going to be smaller than typical.  Perfect in troughs, bonsai containers, edging along stones, model railway gardens, etc etc.

Ophiopogon sp. CDHM 14679 Ophiopogon sp. CDHM 14679

Mondo Grass. Our collection from Asia.  This was shorter-growing than the other species we observed in the area and the leaves were comparatively glossier. The autumn blue fruit was oval shaped and we could only hope the flowers would be good. Our hopes were not misplaced as the white flowers are large for an Ophiopogon and different than our other collections.  This is a dense carpeter rather than a clumper.

Ophiopogon sp. cf. umbraticola H2MD063 Ophiopogon sp. cf. umbraticola H2MD063

A Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy Offering.  Keying Ophiopogon requires a keener taxonomic mind than we possess plus a bottle of sippin' whiskey within easy reach as it is a frustrating endeavor.  This is a little gem forming loose open tussocks of fine bladed grassy green leaves which provides excellent viewing of the comparatively large brilliant blue fruit.

Ophiopogon sp. NV 077 Ophiopogon/Liriope sp. NV 077

A wild collection introduced by Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy hoping to shine some light into the taxonomic murkiness that is these genera.  Perhaps our unflinching ambiguity in assigning it to two possible genera is an indication.  From a high elevation within its range, this should have good hardiness.  Evergreen leaves 18" long by 1/2" wide with blue fruit.  Flowers unknown. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy.

Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Kaori Hime' Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Kaori Hime'

Fragrant Princess False Holly or so the translation goes.  You cannot help but like this diminutive version with its deep green miniature hollyesque leaves and its scented typical Osmanthus-sized white flowers.  This grows ridiculously slow and should you live long enough, plan on having a garden party when your aged Fragrant Princess reaches 3 feet tall.  On second thought, better plan on that party when she reaches 2 feet.
